RATING VALUATIONS

All non-domestic (business) properties are assessed every five years and given new rateable values. The next revaluation is due to come into effect on 1st April 2010 and all business properties will have their rateable values reassessed based on a valuation date of 1st April 2008.
Agricultural businesses are exempt from rates, but when undertaking a non-agricultural business on a farm, the premises used become rateable properties for the levy of business rates.
Sporting rights are exempt from rates but salmon fishing rights are rateable with the rates collected by the regional District Salmon Fishery Board.

COLLAPSED BUILDING GRANT SCHEME

The Scottish Government’s severe weather grant scheme is now open. The maximum grant available is £6,000 per business and the Scottish Government has set aside a maximum of £3 million.
The grant scheme will help provide financial assistance where farmers have been forced to rent alternative housing or acquire temporary structures to avoid exposing livestock to health and welfare problems.
There is no financial assistance for the permanent reinstatement, rebuilding or repair of collapsed buildings.
