GRANT FUNDING AND FEED IN TARIFFS (FiTs)

Posted on

Following the publication of the UK Government’s response to the feed-in tariffs (FiTs) consultation, there has been uncertainty over the eligibility for FiTs where grant support has been provided - most notably under Rural Priorities within the Scotland Rural Development Programme.

The current position, as advised by the Scottish Government on the SRDP website, is as follows:-

  • The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has now received confirmation of the FiTs State Aid clearance from the European Commission.
  • The Scottish Government is seeking urgent clarification from DECC on the interaction with Scottish Government grant programmes (especially SRDP) and FiTs in order that further advice can be provided.
  • It should be noted that it is very likely that installations commissioned before 15th July 2009 will NOT have to repay their grant.
  • However, it is also very likely that grants awarded after 15th July 2009 will have to be repaid before getting a FiT.
  • Equally as likely is that any future grants will be restricted to those who do not intend to apply for a FiT.
