Last week’s vote on the biocides regulation, taken by the European Parliament's Environment Committee, is a victory for common-sense with regards to allowing the continued use of anticoagulant rat baits. Failure to introduce sensible derogations into the regulation ran the risk of robbing the rural community of the majority of products currently used to curtail the country's rat population. For farmers and landowners, there is a constant battle to keep pests out of our feed and grain stores and to ensure that hygiene and quality assurance standards are met.

The vote accepted the need to have existing products for controlling rats available in the absence of viable alternatives. The debate now moves to the European Parliament in September where we hope common-sense will continue to prevail.

RURAL PRACTICE CHARTERED SURVEYOR AND TRAINEE CHARTERED SURVEYOR POSITIONS

Due to an increasing workload, we are looking to expand our rural practice department. Our office is based at Pluscarden, near Elgin, Moray. We currently have a staff of 15 and our core activity is property consultancy and rural estate management.

We are currently accepting applications for both a Rural Practice Chartered Surveyor as well as a Trainee Chartered Surveyor.

The successful applicants will join our rural practice team, which consists of four fully qualified land agents. Both positions are full-time, working Monday to Friday, and salary will be negotiable depending on experience.
